Suffolk Soccer Interleague Goals
The name 'Suffolk Soccer Interleague' is just that, a name, so the teams playing have a way of identifying where they play.
We can call it your club name but then each
club would have a problem with that!
History
Many years ago, this cooperative between
clubs was called inter-town, then
interleague and finally Suffolk Soccer Interleague. This name was selected
by
club presidents at a meeting many years ago.
The purpose of Suffolk Soccer Interleague was
to allow the players a place to play after
travel teams were formed and each club only had a few players left but not
enough to form
pure age divisions for them. In order to avoid putting multiple age groups
together
(an unsafe environment), the need to help each other was obvious.
As the years went on, each club recognized
that the non-travel players needed
a place to play and were willing to put their heads together to help those
players
and form a friendly program for them to play in.
Being a Past President, and knowing the
urgent need to form this type of program,
both my wife and I stepped up to help. This program is important to all
the soccer clubs
here in Suffolk and some in Nassau. The main goal of SSI is to simply
serve as an
extension of each club's intramural program. All we do is help coordinate
schedules and
help set up some guidelines and rules to make each game as friendly as
possible.
We do not collect player registration fees nor cover their insurance. Each
club
does that. We do not compete with any club or league for teams or players’
registration.
These are just friendly scrimmages, not travel games for first place.
I hope this clears up the confusion what SSI
is and why we are here.
Remember this is your program for the players in your community.
